Assignments other than presentations for this class:
Assignment #2: Low Tech Presentation
My contribution to the group: pencil grip, post its, PVC pipe as an audio tool, sticky notes, raised line paper, reading guides, color file folders, talking clocks, digital recorders
Assignment #3: Alternative Input Device
Please see Sight and Sound Prezi presentation and the San Leandro Wired Powerpoint presentation on the My Presentations web page
Assignment #4: Software and Experience Project
The tools I found most valuable from our site visit to Michael's class: Leaptrak, Elmo document camera with recording capabilities, Smartboard, Wii, Bookworm Adventures, Math Blaster, Star Power Premier, Bomomo.com, and Picassohead. The environment was so rich and yet relaxing with muted lighting and relaxing music. VERY conducive to learning.
Assignment #5: Web resource exploration - see Online Tools above
Assignments #6 & 7: Case studies - see Case Studies web page for write up, link to Prezi presentation and detailed lesson plan
Assignment #8: Chapter Reflections - see Readings & Reflections web page
Assignment #9: Class Reflections, tools I will use in my practice and what I would like to see created
I look forward to using Kurzweil 3000, Virtual Manipulatives, Animoto, Prezi, interactive whiteboard (portable), Kidspiration and Inspiration. I would not use the Digiwave.
There are two products I would like to see created. (I worked in class with Sara B to flesh out these ideas.) One is Homework House, an online community where children can log into afterschool, do homework with their friends/classmates, and enter safe, online playrooms during their breaks. Students would get support to establish homework goals, gather needed resources and monitor their emotional state and focus during homework sessions. Students earn "tokens" for meeting their homework and behavior goals and use the tokens in the virtual playrooms.
The other product I would like to create is an Executive Functioning/Self-Monitoring System, a programmable system that reminds students and gives them support that they need based on our evaluation of their cognitive capabilities, behavior patterns and needed supports. The system uses an interactive avatar that the kids design. The avatar is built into assignments and offers reminders and strategies for immediate use. The system is helpful for parents to assist students with things like homework, getting organized and staying on task. It can also be used in classrooms to help students stay on task and focused on given assignments. Progress would be assessed and students would have the opportunity to win points as they meet their goals and spend them on the avatar in a virtual shop. Individual points and class points can be earned.
